Cosmetic Laser Treatments on Skin of Color Room: 511 ~ 1:00PM - 2:15PM (Saturday, February 21, 2009)
Within five (5) years “people of color” (Fitzpatrick Skin Type’s IV – VI) will represent over 35% of Americans and over 55% of the world’s population. Based on advancements of laser technology over the last 10 years, Cosmetic Physicians can now offer a variety of safe and effective lasers treatments to all patients.
Hair removal, complexion blending (removing unwanted pigmented macules & patches), skin rejuvenation and skin tightening laser procedures can now be safely performed on patients irrespective of skin type, color or ethnicity. In order to safely perform these treatments laser practitioners needs to combine the appropriate laser with experience and expertise in performing these procedures on skin of color.
* Attendees of this session are eligible to receive 1 CME credit.
Laser hair removal is one of the most effective, safe and consistent treatment that we offer and in most cosmetic practices it is the top revenue generator. We are finally at a point where the treatment is truly “color blind” where we can safely and effectively treat all patients regardless of skin color or ethnicity. One size “one laser” does not fit all, so to be successful practitioners need to fully understand which wavelengths and parameters are most effective and safe for different skin and hair types.
* Attendees of this session are eligible to receive 1 CME credit.
Note: This session, originally scheduled from 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm on 2/22, has been moved to 3:30 pm - 4:30 pm on 2/21.

The Importance of Office Accreditation Room: 511 ~ 10:30AM - 11:30AM (Sunday, February 22, 2009)
As a dermatologic surgeon and surveyor for the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Healthcare (AAAHC, Accreditation Association), Dr. Roy Grekin knows that accreditation is the mark of quality health care, both to consumers and to regulatory agencies.
Dermatologists perform many of the same office-based procedures as plastic surgeons, including liposuction, laser resurfacing, facial reconstruction, and face lifts. Accreditation demonstrates that dermatologists, like plastic surgeons, meet standards for high-quality medical care and are subject to oversight by their peers.
According to a study from FASA (now the Ambulatory Surgery Center Association), accredited organizations are sued less often and, when they are, their settlements are lower than unaccredited organizations.
Accreditation also is important to regulators. Many states require accreditation as part of their licensure process and the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services have conferred deemed status on centers accredited by AAAHC and others as meeting their conditions for coverage.
A unique quality of AAAHC is the use of volunteer surveyors who are actively involved in ambulatory health care and understand the specific issues facing the facilities they survey.

Aesthetically pleasing hands are a desirable asset because, many cosmetic patients notice a discrepancy between their rejuvenated facial appearance and the aged appearance of their hands. Hands are not only susceptible to the first signs of aging, but very often age even faster then the face. This article discusses the various treatment options for rejuvenation of the aging hand. We will discuss combination treatment to rejuvenate the hands, including sclerotherapy, a 23.4% sodium chloride solution to minimize prominent veins, intense pulse light laser treatment for the treatment of lentigos and semi-perment fillers such as Radiesse and Sculptra to amplify volume loss. We can offer patients this multi-modality approach for successful hand rejuvenation. Hand rejuvenation is the new “must have” procedure.
